Exciting Ways to Prepare Tropical Fruits

They are not only exotic, tropical fruits also provide variation to your food; fruits such as papayas, coconuts, pineapples, mangos, watermelon and a lot more. These are just a few examples of the many assortments of tropical fruits that you will see in your supermarket’s exotic fruit section.

If you’ve only appreciated tropical fruits from a distance and not try them because you have no idea what to do with them, then here is some advice on how to prepare these delightful fruits.

Smoothies

Tropical fruits such as mangos, pineapple and papayas and watermelons are really delicious in smoothies. All you have to do is mix one cup of any of these fruit in one cup of milk, one tablespoon full of honey and some ice cubes. You can even combine these fruits for a more interesting taste. Instead of using of ice cubes however, you may also use frozen fruits for a more enhanced flavour of the smoothie.

Tropical Fruit Salad

One of the best tasting fruit salads is made using tropical fruits. All you have to do is clean and chop your tropical fruit into bite sized pieces.  A good example of a tropical fruit salad is a combination of one cup each or chopped mango, pineapple, papaya and kiwi fruit. Add in half a cup of coconut shavings with half a cup of pineapple juice, a quarter of a cup of orange juice and 1 tablespoon honey, pour over salad and toss.

Salsa

Pineapples, papayas, and mangos are especially delicious when mixed into a salsa. More importantly, mangos seem to blend really well with other ingredients in salsa such as cilantro and jalapeno peppers. You can serve your fruit salsa with tortilla chips, fish or chicken.

Grilled Tropical Fruits

Grilled tropical fruits make a good accompaniment to grilled meat and fish. Just skewer different combination of these fruits and warm them over the grill for a short time on each side. Serve a skewered pineapple with chicken that was marinated in a sauce made with pineapple juice. Grilled swordfish tastes exceptionally good with a grilled papaya as a side dish, while salmon and shrimp is just perfect with grilled mangos.

When you incorporate tropical fruit to your diet, remember that you are not limited to eating them raw. Including them in your meal doesn’t only enhance your general health, they can also give you and your taste buds a new and interesting food experience.
